Helping Tasmania’s beef producers build confidence in carbon accounting
Stocktake is supporting Tasmania’s beef farmers to optimise their farm management data, maintain their sustainability credentials, and keep pace with evolving supply chain requirements.
Climate-related disclosures are now mandatory for large Australian businesses. Alongside their annual financial reports, climate-related risks and opportunities must also be included, and this is flowing through supply chains to primary producers.
Carbon emission reports form part of these disclosures, so getting ahead of carbon accounting now will help Tasmanian beef producers stay competitive as these requirements continue to filter down.
BACKGROUND
Stocktake is developing practical tools and resources to help the Tasmanian beef sector build confidence and capability in carbon accounting. Through the program, producers can expect to build a better understanding of environmental disclosure requirements and carbon emissions assessments, and grow the confidence to engage with them in ways that support more efficient, strategic decisions on-farm.
The program will also highlight the value of good data capture for climate preparedness and long-term business resilience, and show how "carbon readiness" can improve the way producers use livestock and accounting software.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
We’re currently seeking Expressions of Interest from Tasmanian beef producers to participate as case study farms.
What’s involved?
As a case study farm we will support you to complete a Carbon Emission Baseline for your farm (Financial Year 2026-2027). You’ll get access to our team of advisors, who will help you with the data collection, and once the assessment is complete, will help you to understand the report and identify opportunities for emission reduction and efficiency improvements.
As a case study farm:
Your involvement in the program will be from October 2026 - December 2027.
You’ll be expected to commit about 30 hours to the program. This time commitment includes meeting with our advisors, and supplying information to assist with completing the emission assessment (similar to what you would expect to do as end-of-year tax preparation).
You’ll be expected to provide financial and farm management data to complete the emissions assessments.
De-identified summary findings from your report may be shared in case studies that will be made publicly available to help other farmers build confidence in carbon accounting. You may also be asked to participate in events (currently planned for winter/spring 2027), so others can learn from your experiences.
As a case study farm you’ll get receive an estimated value of around $12,000 worth of consulting and assessment work.
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate you must be commercially farming beef in Tasmania.

Delivered by West Pine, the project commenced in January 2026 and is running until June 2028.
